"And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Genesis 12:2-3
Families of the earth - outside Damascus Gate in Jerusalem
From a message given by Paul Parkhouse of ICEJ - used with his permission
God chose Family as his means of blessing the whole earth that he had just created.
From the creation account in the early chapters of Genesis, we can pick up several important facts.
God, formed a person [Hebrew: adam] from the dust of the ground [Hebrew: adamah] and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, so that he became a living being.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Woman was created out of man, so that he would not be alone
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion .......
God, planted a garden toward the east, in `Eden.
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
God was training Adam to care for the earth.
All the earth was uncultivated before man was created to tend it. (Man's calling was prepared in advance for him)
After the fall.....
Man and woman had children, for whom they had responsibility. They started to multiply.
Thus God established a chain of authority - God - Man - Woman - children. God had created FAMILY.
With the Fall, Satan usurped God's position of authority over man, stole the Family and used it to fill the earth with violence - until God had to sweep away all except righteous Noah and his family.
God expelled Mankind from the Garden and said to Adam,
....... cursed is the ground for thy sake . . . . Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; .......
So - after the fall, mankind was to multiply, and to cultivate and manage the earth. So the Family was set in motion to govern the whole earth. But because the family had rebelled against God, allowing Satan to usurp God's authority, this family filled the earth with violence and wickedness. Such is the power of the family for good or evil!
God chose a land - found a man - started a Family.
Abram (later Abraham) was the man and the east coast of the Mediterranean was the land - the land where God took Abram and told him to "Get up and walk through the length and breadth of the land, because I will give it to you." Genesis 13:17
The family (Abraham's descendents) came through Isaac, the child of promise, born to Abraham and Sarah when they were well past childbearing age - because Abraham trusted God.
This was the family God established to take his Kingdom to the whole earth, and since the whole earth was in bondage to sin and death, this meant this family was to bring Salvation to the whole earth. (to bless all the families of the earth) As God promised Abraham,
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Gen 12:2-3
Why Abraham? - Because of his faithfulness, his trust and his acceptance of God's headship over him and his family.
Why the Jews? - With some branches of the family not included in the plan, The Jews were the descendants of Abraham and heirs of the land and the Kingdom responsibility to bring God's blessing (Salvation) to all the families of the earth.
(Ishamael, Esau and the eleven tribes, other than Judah, dropped out of this plan - although remnants of the eleven tribes joined into Judah (Jews). They were not destroyed, but became part of the rest of the families of the earth to whom the Jews would bring God's blessing of salvation.
This plan came into effect after and because of the work and sacrifice of Yeshua / Jesus, in a manner likened by Paul to their being grafted into God's cultivated olive tree, even though they were like shoots from a wild olive tree.
God's covenant with Abraham and his descendents - Genesis 17:7
"I am establishing my covenant between me and you, along with your descendants after you, generation after generation, as an everlasting covenant, to be God for you and for your descendants after you. I will give you and your descendants after you the land in which you are now foreigners, all the land of Kena`an, as a permanent possession; and I will be their God." God said to Avraham, "As for you, you are to keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you, generation after generation.
Thus every covenant was made by God with the Jews (God' possession) - including the New Covenant; and that was sealed with Yeshua / Jesus' Jewish blood.
Thereafter, the new body of Messiah Yeshua moved from being entirely Jewish and started taking in the Gentiles (from "all the families of the earth" ). So now, from geographically small Israel, the body of Messiah (the Church) is spreading all over the earth; but its roots are still in Israel / the Jews.
This is why Christian anti-Semitism (Anti-Zionism, Anti-Israelism, BDS, whatever you choose to call it) is so absurd - like sitting on the branch of a tree while sawing it off!
But Satan is still after the Jews because they are still the carriers of God's promise of salvation and redemption - still the root and the trunk - the covenant carriers. And he is after their land because that is where the Messiah Yeshua is coming back to. (Acts 1 and Zechariah 14)
Satan and his followers still seek to wipe out Israel. (Revelation 12)
Thankfully, we have God's word that this will not happen, Jeremiah 33:24
"Haven't you noticed that these people are saying, 'Adonai has rejected the two families he chose'? Hence they despise my people and no longer look at them as a nation.
Here is what Adonai says: 'If I have not established my covenant with day and night and fixed the laws for sky and earth, then I will also reject the descendants of Ya`akov and of my servant David, not choosing from his descendants people to rule over the descendants of Avraham, Yis'chak and Ya`akov. For I will cause their captives to come back, and I will show them compassion.' "
Thus we can follow this thread of Family right through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and Israel and the Jews are, in effect, that thread. John saw (Revelation 21:10)
He carried me off in the Spirit to the top of a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city, Yerushalayim, coming down out of heaven from God. It had the Sh'khinah of God, so that its brilliance was like that of a priceless jewel, like a crystal-clear diamond. It had a great, high wall with twelve gates; at the gates were twelve angels; and inscribed on the gates were the names of the twelve tribes of Isra'el.
