Response by Plato (India), Nov 30, 2009 to reader comment:
"Christianity is far more violent than Islam"
"I dont believe that there can be even one single Muslim who can do terrorism."
Your belief does not matter. What matters is reality, and the reality is that more Muslims are involved in terrorism than anyone else. Calling Muslims who commit crimes against humanity non-Muslims is a trick that will no longer work. We saw Muslims all over the world celebrate the twin tower attack. We see Muslims baying for the blood of Salman Rushdie, of Ayman Hirsi, Taslima Nasrin and others. If they are not Muslims why is there not a single fatwa from a prominent Muslim scholar declaring them apostates?? Why do Muslim preachers wander around freely preaching hatred of non-Muslims. How many preachers have you heard of being prosecuted for giving hate speeches in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or even in the West?
"there is nothing like hating non-muslims ,killing randomly in islam. killing is strictly forbidden."
Such statements from Muslims bring out hoots of laughter from us. Read these verses from the all-Merciful Allah:
002.216 YUSUFALI: Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not. [FIGHT EVEN IF YOU DISLIKE IT]
004.074 YUSUFALI: Let those fight in the cause of Allah Who sell the life of this world for the hereafter. To him who fighteth in the cause of Allah,- whether he is slain or gets victory - Soon shall We give him a reward of great (value).
In verse 4:74 Allah is encouraging Muslims to sell their lives for the pleasures of the hearafter. Can this be a merciful creator of the world speaking? If you die you get paradise. If you are victorious you get booty the form plunder including men, women and children who are made into slaves
009.041 YUSUFALI: Go ye forth, (whether equipped) lightly or heavily, and strive and struggle, with your goods and your persons, in the cause of Allah. That is best for you, if ye (but) knew.
Allah is teaching Muslims what is best for them, which is to fight with their wealth and their bodies in His cause.
009.088 YUSUFALI: But the Messenger, and those who believe with him, strive and fight with their wealth and their persons: for them are (all) good things: and it is they who will prosper.
In 9:88 Allah reiterates what He tells Muslims in 9:41
004.077 YUSUFALI: Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who were told to hold back their hands (from fight) but establish regular prayers and spend in regular charity? When (at length) the order for fighting was issued to them, behold! a section of them feared men as - or even more than - they should have feared Allah: They said: "Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordered us to fight? Wouldst Thou not Grant us respite to our (natural) term, near (enough)?" Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world: the Hereafter is the best for those who do right: Never will ye be dealt with unjustly in the very least!
In verse 4:77 we read of people asking Allah (aka Muhammad) why they are being ordered to fight and to grant them respite so that they can die a natural death. Allah (Muhammad) replies brutally that the hereafter is best for them and that if they die they will be given a good deal (paradise).
"This widely accepted opinion that Muslims are terrorists and kuran is full of criminality is created by western politicians, because they need enemies, they need war industry and they need chaotic geography. energy is a big reason also. why were the Muslims good boys when soviets were there."
You read the verses I have quoted above which show you clearly the Koran is indeed full of criminality. The Western politicians did not write those verses that urge Muslims to fight for the pleasures of paradise. These are the kinds of Koranic verses that generate terrorists from among the Muslim masses.
"it is the people who make the religion good or bad; not the other way."
What you say about people making the religion good or bad is true of other religions. But with Muslims it is Islam that makes its followers bad. You read the verses I have quoted above 2:216, 4:74, 4:77. These verses are clearly instigating Muslims to create havoc in the world and many do.
"I am one of the servants of Allah. We do our duty of fighting for the sake of the religion of Allah. It is also our duty to send a call to all the people of the world to enjoy this great light and to embrace Islam and experience the happiness in Islam. Our primary mission is nothing but the furthering of this religion."
Osama bin Laden, May 1998
Aside from pursuing mass murder plots against innocent populations in every corner of the planet, Islamic terrorists have one other thing in common:
They credit their motivation and success to religion.
Islam isn't hijacked by extremists - it is what sustains them. This distinguishes Islamic terrorism from mere criminal activity, and it is part of what makes Islam so very, very different from other religions.
Many people would prefer to bury their heads in the sand or look for ways to recast Islamic terror to fit their own political agenda, but the fact is that violent Muslims are quite explicit about the religious certainty that compels and justifies their actions.
The teachings and early history of Islam that explain the violence are discussed elsewhere on this site. Here we just want to show that, as far as Islamic terrorists are concerned, their acts are done specifically in the name of Allah and for the cause of Islam and Islamic rule... across the globe.

by Raymond Ibrahim - Nov 25, 2015 - Cross-posted from Coptic Solidarity
Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah Nasr, a scholar of Islamic law and graduate of Egypt's Al Azhar University - regularly touted as the world's most prestigious Islamic university - recently exposed his alma mater in a televised interview.
After being asked why Al Azhar, which is in the habit of denouncing secular thinkers as un-Islamic, refuses to denounce the Islamic State as un-Islamic, Sheikh Nasr said:
It can't [condemn the Islamic State as un-Islamic]. The Islamic State is a byproduct of Al Azhar's programs. So can Al Azhar denounce itself as un-Islamic?
Al Azhar says there must be a caliphate and that it is an obligation for the Muslim world [to establish it]. Al Azhar teaches the law of apostasy and killing the apostate. Al Azhar is hostile towards religious minorities, and teaches things like not building churches, etc. Al Azhar upholds the institution of jizya [extracting tribute from religious minorities]. Al Azhar teaches stoning people. So can Al Azhar denounce itself as un-Islamic?
Nasr joins a growing chorus of critics of Al Azhar. Last September, while discussing how the Islamic State burns some of its victims alive - most notoriously, a Jordanian pilot - Egyptian journalist Yusuf al-Husayni remarked on his satellite program that "The Islamic State is only doing what Al Azhar teaches... and the simplest example is Ibn Kathir's Beginning and End."
Al Azhar, which the New York Times calls "Sunni Islam's leading religious institution," refuses to denounce ISIS as un-Islamic.
Ibn Kathir is one of Sunni Islam's most renowned scholars; his Beginning and End is a magisterial history of Islam and a staple at Al Azhar. It is also full of Muslims, beginning with Muhammad, committing the sorts of atrocities that the Islamic State and other Islamic organizations and persons commit.
In February, Egyptian political writer Dr. Khalid al-Montaser revealed that Al Azhar was encouraging enmity for non-Muslims, specifically Coptic Christians, and even inciting for their murder. Marveled Montaser:
"Is it possible at this sensitive time - when murderous terrorists rest on texts and understandings of takfir [accusing Muslims of apostasy], murder, slaughter, and beheading - that Al Azhar magazine is offering free of charge a book whose latter half and every page - indeed every few lines - ends with "whoever disbelieves [non-Muslims] strike off his head"?"
The prestigious Islamic university - which co-hosted U.S. President Obama's 2009 "A New Beginning" speech - has even issued a free booklet dedicated to proving that Christianity is a "failed religion."
In short, the phenomenon known as "ISIS" is not a temporal aberration within Islam but rather a byproduct of what is considered normative thinking for Al Azhar - the Islamic world's most authoritative university.
"Allahu Akbar" - "Allah is greater" is the first phrase of the call to prayer issued by the
from the mosque loudspeakers.
The following are news items quoted from newspapers in the last few years.
October 19, 1994
" A powerful bomb, apparently placed by Islamic militants opposed to the Arab-Israeli peace negotiations, blew up a crowded bus during the morning rush hour in the heart of Tel Aviv, Israel, killing 22 people and wounding 48."
July 18, 1995
" A huge bomb exploded destroying a seven-story downtown building housing two Jewish groups in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At least 26 people were killed and 127 injured."
February 26, 1993
" A tremendous underground explosion believed to be caused by a bomb, shook the 110 story twin towers of Manhattan's World Trade Center, in New York, killing at least five people, injuring more than 1000, and sending tens of thousands of workers fleeing for their lives down crowded smoke-filled stairs."
May 4, 1992
" 13 Egyptian Christians were shot dead by Muslim fundamentalists in Mansheit Nasser, Egypt. Ten Christian farmers were ambushed and murdered while working in their fields. A Christian teacher was shot in the local school while teaching a class of ten-year olds. A Christian doctor was shot dead outside his home."
These are just a few samples out of thousands of terrorist attacks, which all have one element in common: They were all committed by Muslim fundamentalists. While there are extremists in other groups, who are capable of committing acts of violence, it seems that violence committed by Muslim extremists exceeds the violence of all other groups combined.
WHY DO MUSLIM FUNDAMENTALISTS ACT THIS WAY?
Are Muslim fundamentalists inherently inhumane, savage and evil? Of course not. Muslims are ordinary people, just like anybody else. They are fathers, brothers and sons. They could be doctors, engineers and lawyers. They are your co-workers, and your next door neighbors.
So what goes on in their minds when they act violently? To understand this one must understand an important and dangerous Islamic teaching called "Jihad", ( or Holy War).
It is important to understand that not every Arab is a Muslim, not every Muslim is an Arab, and not every Muslim is a fundamentalist. We are not trying to attack a religion. We are only exposing a teaching in a religion that could have a serious effect on all society.
It is also important to know that in exercising Jihad, Muslim fundamentalists may not think they are trying to maliciously hurt others, but rather they are only obeying God's commandments. And in doing so, they are assuring themselves a place in Paradise.
JIHAD ( Holy War)
Jihad is one of the most sacred duties Muslims perform. The word "Jihad", is an Arabic word which means "struggle". In this sense Jihad is the struggle for the cause of spreading Islam, using all means available to Muslims, including violence. This kind of Jihad is often referred to as " Holy War".
In resorting to violence, Muslims will not have any problem finding passages in the Quran ( believed by Muslims to be Allah's word), and the Hadith (Mohammed's sayings as recorded by Al Bukhari), that will not only condone violence, but will also demand it.
JIHAD IN THE "QURAN".
Allah orders Muslims in the Quran to terrorize non-Muslims on His behalf.
"Strike terror (into the hearts of) the enemies of God and your enemies." Surah 8:60
"Fight (kill) them (non-Muslims), and God will punish, (torment) them by your hands, cover them with shame." Surah 9:14
" I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them. It is not ye who slew them; it was God."
JIHAD IN THE "HADITH".
In the Hadith Mohammed also urges Muslims to practice Jihad.
Mohammed was once asked: what is the best deed for the Muslim next to believing in Allah and His Apostle? His answer was : " To participate in Jihad in Allah's cause. " Al Bukhari vol 1:25.
Mohammed was quoted as saying: "I have been ordered to fight with the people till they say, none has the right to be worshipped but Allah." Al Bukhari vol 4:196.
Mohammed also said; "The person who participates in (Holy Battles) in Allah's cause and nothing compels him do so except belief in Allah and His Apostle, will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty ( if he survives) or will be admitted to Paradise ( if he is killed). Al Bukhari vol 1:35
MOHAMMED: AN EXAMPLE
When the prophet of Islam started preaching his new religion in Mecca, he was conciliatory to Christians and Jews. He told them, "We believe in what has been sent down to us and sent down to you, our God is the same as your God. "Surah 29:45. This attitude changed completely after he gained strength. Allah then tells him to
"Fight People of the Book (Christians and Jews), who do not accept the religion of the truth (Islam), until they pay tribute (penalty tax) by hand, being inferior." Surah 9:29.
Regarding Christians and Jews, it seems that Mohammed hated the Jews more. During his lifetime, Mohammed devoted much of his efforts to get rid of the Jews: "You (Jews) should know that the earth belongs to Allah and His apostle, and I want to expel from this land ( the Arabian Peninsula), so, if anyone owns property, he is permitted to sell it". Mohammed was quoted.
At that time there were in Medina three Jewish tribes. Two of them, the Qaynqa and the Bani-al-Nudair tribes, were besieged by Mohammed's men, blocking their access to food supplies, until they surrendered on Mohammed's terms, which were that their lives would be spared, that they must emigrate from Medina, and that they must deposit all their belongings at a certain place for distribution among Muslims.
The third tribe, Bani Quayza, was not as lucky. After the war of the trench, in which Mohammed was besieged by the Qurayshites led, by Abu Sofyan, it was alleged that Bani Qurayza agreed to provide help from within to Abu Sofyan's forces. Although the alleged help did not materialize and the siege eventually ended, nevertheless, Mohammed never forgave them for their willingness to help his enemies.
Muslims turned against Bani Qurayza and blocked their streets for twenty five days.
The Jewish tribe expressed readiness to accept the surrender terms which had been conceded to the other two Jewish tribes, namely cession of their belongings and departure with safe conduct.
Mohammed, however, would not consent to this, and instead appointed as an arbiter Saad iben Moaz, a man who was known to be on bad terms with Bani Qurayza. Saad ruled that all Bani Qurayza's men should be beheaded, that the women and children should be sold as slaves, and that all their property should be divided among the Muslims.
Trenches were dug in the bazaar of Medina for disposal of the nine hundred Jewish bodies whom Mohammed had spent the night slaughtering. (See Ibn Hisham: The Propeht's Biography: vol 2 pages 40&41.)
These are historical facts that happened 14 centuries ago, they represent a dangerous tendency for violence in the Islamic mentality. More serious is that Muslim fundamentalists are trying to repeat these acts of violence in this 21st century.
Debapriya Chatterjee - Tuesday, September 23, 2014
During a recent interview, British imam and political activist Anjem Choudary said the Koran acknowledges terrorism as part of the Islamic faith. On the program titled "Worlds Apart," "Russia Today" host Oksana Boyko asked Choudary about Islamic State's beheading of two American journalists, inquiring whether Islamists can hold one person responsible for the actions carried out by a group, to which Choudary gave his controversial response.
"You said just recently on CNN that the decapitation of journalist James Foley was, in fact, an attempt by the Islamic State to terrorize their enemy, which in this case is the United States," she stated. "I wonder whether something like that could be justified under the Sharia law. Can you really hold an individual responsible for the actions of a collective? Is that legal in Islam?"
"Well, as you know, as a lecturer in Sharia law, I would say to the people in Russia, the Muslims and the non-Muslims, that every action for a Muslim must be based upon the Qur'an, the word of Allah, and the teachings of the messenger Mohammed … who is the final messenger for mankind," he replied.
Choudary then went on to cite the Koran in an attempt to justify how terrorism is in fact part of the Islamic faith.
"I would first invite the people to think about and embrace Islam, but those who are already Muslim must know that Allah mentions in the Koran - in fact if you look in chapter 8, verse 60, he said, 'Prepare as much as you can steeds of war to terrorize the enemy,'" Choudary explained. "So terrorizing the enemy is in fact part of Islam. I mean, this is something that we must embrace and understand as far as jurisprudence of Islam is concerned."
Choudary, who is also an attorney, pointed out that Muslims to not discriminate between military troops and civilians while carrying out attacks because it is the people that elect their leaders.
"Those very civilians are those who put the people in charge, and those people in charge like Obama and others are sending their troops to Muslim countries," he said, "let alone people like journalists who are considered to be the right hand of the propaganda machine of the Obama administration."
Choudary earlier headed the radical group Al Muhajiroun, which was eventually blacklisted in the United Kingdom, after two of its former members were linked with the beheading of a British soldier in 2013 - an incident that shocked the nation, as it took place on a London street in broad daylight. Choudary has also been vocal about his support for the 9/11 attacks where he referred to the terrorists responsible as "magnificent martyrs."
"Quite frankly, I think it's completely pathetic and absurd for you to ask a Muslim to condemn a killing of one individual when hundreds of thousands of Muslims are being slaughtered, of which you don't know that name," he said.
In an interview last month, Choudary also said that the eventual goal of Islam is to set up a global Islamic State.
"You don't have a choice," he said. "It's coming to you in America."
After the bombings in Boston, many Muslims are writing and tweeting the following sentence, "Please, don't let it be a Muslim."
Who are they writing this to, their god Allah, or to Americans?
Most Muslims know their Quran specifically instructs them to terrorize and kill unbelievers until "all religion belongs to Allah." This is no secret to Muslims. And notice the word "belongs". This word means ownership of property or association with. There is no freedom in Islam, none whatsoever, i.e., no democracy. In fact the Quran is the constitution of every Muslim, a constitution that entirely opposes the United States Constitution.
So, since Muslims know that they are instructed to terrorize and kill unbelievers, why do they hope that the Boston bomber (bombers) is not a Muslim? Why, do Muslims, instead of acknowledging that their Quran instructs them to terrorize and kill unbelievers, say "Please, let it not be a Muslim."
There are only two answers to this question.
One answer is that many Muslims are in denial that Islam is not a "religion of peace" as the Quran claims, i.e., denial that the Quran has been deceiving them all their lives.
The second answer is that Muslims know well that the Quran lies and in fact teaches them to lie, and are attempting to cover up Islam's intent. This is what we call "sleepers" amongst us.
Essentially - The Muslims do not want the attack to have been by Muslims as it will make life more difficult for them and they will have to try and explain it away. Whether it was a Muslim or not will not help the victims.
Beware! Islam is lying to you!
NOTE: Not every Muslim acts upon the Quran's instruction to terrorize and kill unbelievers, but every Muslim does, nonetheless, follow the Quran — if not so they would not call themselves Muslims. Islam is the Quran and therefore every Muslim is defined by the Quran. There is no other "Islam" than the one defined by the instructions of the Quran, and there is no other "Muslim" other than the "Muslim" defined and instructed by the Quran. For this reason every Muslim, no matter what they say, supports terrorism and the killing of unbelievers in one way or another "until all religion is Allah's," i.e., until Islam controls everyone. And if that happens Islam's preachers intend to rule all mankind with Sharia law.
Qur'an, Surah 8, verse 60: "Prepare for them whatever force and cavalry ye are able of gathering to strike terror, to strike terror into the hearts of enemies of Allah and your enemies."
Quran, Surah 4, verse 56: "Those who have disbelieved our signs, we shall roast them in fire, whenever their skins are cooked to a turn we shall substitute new skins for them that they may feel the punishment: Verily Allah is sublime and wise."
Quran, Surah 47, verse 4: "Therefore, when ye meet the unbelievers, smite at their necks, and when ye have caused a bloodbath bind and bond firmly on them."
Quran, Surah 4, verse 89: "They but wish that ye should reject the faith as they do, and thus be on the same footing as they, so take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah. But if they turn renegades, seize them and kill them wherever ye find them and take no friends or helpers from their ranks."
Quran, Surah 8, verse 39: "Fight them until there is no dissention and all religion belongs to Allah (is entirely for Allah)."
And they threaten us - claiming that if they are not allowed to teach the Quran in our Western cultures that they will wage "jihad" against us. The spread of Islam is in fact already "jihad," because once they have the upper hand (majority) we will all be taken captive, ruled by Sharia law and have to pay additional tax for not being Muslims.
From WikiIslam, the online resource on Islam
Many Islamic (terrorist) organizations have explained why terrorism is allowed in Islam. Organizations such as Hamas, and Al Qaeda have done so using verses of the Qur'an and the Hadith.
Justification in the Qur'an
Killing a Muslim is killing all of mankind - If Anyone Slew a Person (Qur'an 5:32)
The life of a non-Muslim is not sacred in Islam, but many Muslims and non-Muslims alike, will present you with Qur'an 5:32 which they claim denounces killing, and equates the slaying of one human life to that of genocide against the entirety of mankind:
"On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone slew a person - unless it be in retaliation for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew all mankind: and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all humanity."
Meaning of verse
According to the highly respected Qur'anic exegesis of Ibn Kathir- early qur'anic commentator, Sayid ibn Jubayr (who lived at the time of Muhammad, and was a companion of Ayesha), had said:
.....Sa`id bin Jubayr said, "He who allows himself to shed the blood of a Muslim, is like he who allows shedding the blood of all people. He who forbids shedding the blood of one Muslim, is like he who forbids shedding the blood of all people." In addition, Ibn Jurayj said that Al-A`raj said that Mujahid commented on the Ayah, Human Beings Should Respect the Sanctity of Other Human Beings
Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Terrorism in General
Sheikh Osama bin Laden
Saifullah Sheikh Osama bin Laden (born 1957), best known for the September 11 attacks, used quotes from the Qur'an to justify Terrorism, such as:
O prophet! Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be harsh against them. Their abode is hell, and an evil destination it is. Qur'an 9:73
O you who believe! Take not the Jews and Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guides not a people unjust. Qur'an 5:51
And fight them until there's no fitnah (polytheism) and religion is wholly for Allah. Qur'an 8:39
Dr. Zakir Naik
Certain scholars such as Dr. Zakir Naik (born October 18, 1965) have said all Muslims should be terrorist in the context of war and fighting (what is in the Islamic view) evils of society, but rejected terrorism which attacks and kills innocent civilians since he argues the verse below only applies in war. When he was asked about the following verse.
"Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies". Qur'an 8:60
"Every Muslim should be a terrorist. A terrorist is a person who causes terror. The moment a robber sees a policeman he is terrified. A policeman is a terrorist for the robber . A Muslim should be a terrorist for the Robber and all other anti-social elements."
Justification in the Hadith
Terrorists use Muhammad's numerous caravan raids of Meccans that passed by Medina as justification for attacking civilian targets as well as military. Muhammad (the Uswa Hasana) organized 64 such raids from 622 CE to 630 CE, of which he personally led 27.
Palestinians celebrate the deaths of 2,919 civilians in the 9/11 Islamic terror attacks on America and hand out free sweets
When Muhammad made a peace deal with Banu Nadir and Banu Qurayza and other Jewish tribes, the three leaders of the Jewish tribes were accused by him of breaking the peace treaty. Although he claimed only the three leaders of the tribes broke the peace treaty, Muhammad ordered the beheading of all the Jewish men and boys (who had begun to grow pubic hair). Combatants and non-combatants alike were slaughtered and the remaining women and young children were taken captive by the Muslims and sold in slave markets. This incident took place in the Battle of the Trench. Terrorist use this as justification to attack American civilians.. Omar Bakri used this hadith as a justification as to why terrorism is allowed and why killing of civilians is allowed.
Justification for Killing Jews
There are endless examples of anti-Semitism within Islamic scriptures. However, Hamas, an Islamic Resistance movement is Palestine, has justified the killing of Jewish Civilians using the hadith below, which they have also included in their Charter, Many other clerics and scholars have also referred to this verse to justify the killing of Jews:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.
Sahih Muslim 41:6985, See also: Sahih Muslim 41:6981, Sahih Muslim 41:6982, Sahih Muslim 41:6983, Sahih Muslim 41:6984, and Sahih Bukhari 4:56:791
As has already been shown, Muhammad's (therefore Islam's) definition of a child differs from a non-Muslims. In Islam a boy who has started puberty is considered an adult. However, for this section we will accept the Islamic understanding. Although Muhammad somewhat disapproved of the killing of woman and 'children', he made a clear exception for non-Muslim woman and children. When he was at war, one of his companions came to him and said they had found children and woman among the dead when they were using catapults.
"The Prophet passed by me at a place called Al-Abwa or Waddan, and was asked whether it was permissible to attack the pagan warriors at night with the probability of exposing their women and children to danger. The Prophet replied, "They (i.e. women and children) are from them (i.e. pagans)." Sahih Bukhari 4:52:256
Muhammad said "they are of them" more than 3 times when children were killed.
It is narrated by Sa'b b. Jaththama that he said (to the Holy Prophet)" Messenger of Allah, we kill the children of the polytheists during the night raids". He said: "They are from them".
Sahih Muslim 19:4322
Muslim terrorist use this as a justification for carrying out terrorist attacks even if it puts woman and children in danger are even if they get killed. Muslim cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed referred to this hadith to justify why killing children accidentally is Islamic.
Justification for Killing Homosexuals
Many terrorists, as do Islamic Scholars, justify the killing of homosexuals using the hadith. Terrorist acts have been committed against homosexuals on a regular basis in countries like Iraq where currently there are death squads operating. They justify their acts based on the teachings and actions of Muhammad, who said:
Whoever you find doing the action of the people of Loot, execute the one who does it and the one to whom it is done Abu Dawud 38:4447
Muhammad's first successor Abu Bakr (the father of Aisha) had a homosexual burned at the stake. The fourth caliph, Muhammad's son-in-law Ali, ordered a sodomite thrown from the minaret of a mosque. Others he ordered to be stoned. One of the earliest and most authoritative commentators on the Koran, Ibn'Abbas (died 687) blended both approaches into a two-step execution in which "the sodomite should be thrown from the highest building in the town and then stoned." Later it was decided that if no building were tall enough, then he could be shoved off a cliff. Regardless of the exact method, many jurist argue over the way the punishment should be carried out.
Killing Apostates (people who leave Islam)
According to Islam, people who leave Islam must face the death penalty. In 1992 Muslim militants gunned down Farag Foda, an Egyptian secularist. They claim they did so because the prophet ordered the death of apostates.
Before his death, Farag Foda was declared an apostate and foe of Islam. An Al-Azhar University scholar, Mohammed al-Ghazali, a witness before the court, declared it was not wrong to kill a foe of Islam. Al-Ghazali said:
The killing of Farag Foda was in fact the implementation of the punishment against an apostate which the imam (the Islamic leader) has failed to implement (undertake).
This was due to the sayings of Muhammad, who said:
"'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'" Sahih Bukhari 9:84:57
One of his followers refused to sit down and talk until a Jewish man who left Islam was killed. Only after he was killed did he continue.
Killing those who mock Muhammad
Islamic scholars have declared that if a person mocks Muhammad, they must be killed.
Whoever Curses the Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon him, Muslim or Kafir, Must be Killed.
The Drawn Sword Against the One Who Curses the Messenger - Pages 31-33 Ibn Taymiyyah
"The general scholars agreed that whoever curses him, Peace and Blessings be upon him, must be killed. This was stated by Malik, Al-Layth, Ahmad, Ishaaq, and Ash-Shafi'ee, and Nu'man (Abu Hanifa) said that the Dhimmi (Jizya-paying non-Muslim) is not to be killed."
The Drawn Sword Against the One Who Curses the Messenger - Pages 31-33 Ibn Al-Munthir
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sometimes chose to forgive those who had insulted him, and sometimes he ordered that they should be executed, if that served a greater purpose. But now his forgiveness is impossible because he is dead, so the execution of the one who insults him remains the right of Allaah, His Messenger and the believers, and the one who deserves to be executed cannot be let off, so the punishment must be carried out. Al-Saarim al-Maslool, 2/438
Insulting the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is one of the worst of forbidden actions, and it constitutes kufr and apostasy from Islam, according to scholarly consensus, whether done seriously or in jest. The one who does that is to be executed even if he repents and whether he is a Muslim or a kaafir.
Ruling on one who insults the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
Shaykh al Munajid - Islam Q&A - Fatwa No. 22809
Muhammad and his Jewish neighbour
Some Muslims say the Muhammad had a Jewish neighbour who threw rubbish at him, one day the person became ill and Muhammad visited her. This story is not present in any Islamic texts or hadith and is thus most likely made-up. Neither have any scholars of the past mentioned it.
Muhammad reportedly said: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim. Sahih Muslim 19:4366
Therefore he could not have had non-Muslims neighbours in the later stage of his life.
Hating for Sake of Allah
Muhammad is noted to have said: The best of the actions is to love for the sake of Allah and to hate for the sake of Allah. Abu Dawud 40:4582
Many Muslims have used this as a justification to hate what they consider Kufr. Muhammad also said that fighting jihad is second only to the belief in him and Allah.
Allah's Apostle was asked, "What is the best deed?" He replied, "To believe in Allah and His Apostle (Muhammad). The questioner then asked, "What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, "To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's Cause." Sahih Bukhari 1:2:25
Scholars on Terrorism
Ziauddin Barani (1285 - 1357) says in his book Fatawa-i Jahandari:
Musalmans will be favored and honored; infidels and men of bad faith will be faced with destitution and disgrace; the orders of the unlawful fate and the opposed creeds will be erased; the laws of the shari'at will be enforced on the seventy-two communities; and the enemies of God and the Prophet, will be condemned, banished, repudiated, and terrorized
Ziauddin Barani, Fatwa
Dr. Yusuf Azzam says, when talking about offensive Jihaad:
"Jihad Against the Kuffar is of two Types: Offensive Jihad (where the enemy is attacked in his own territory) ... [and] Defensive Jihad. This is expelling the Kuffar from our land, and it is Fard Ayn [personal religious obligation on Muslim individuals], a compulsory duty upon all ... ...Where the Kuffar [infidels] are not gathering to fight the Muslims, the fighting becomes Fard Kifaya [religious obligation on Muslim society] with the minimum requirement of appointing believers to guard borders, and the sending of an army at least once a year to terrorise the enemies of Allah. - Offensive Jihad Vs. Defensive Jihad - Sheikh Abdullah Azzam
Critics of Islam who often try to argue that Islam is a barbaric faith that commands violence against non-believers will often quote the following verse from the Quran to try and substantiate their argument:
Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them." ?(8:12)
So they quote this verse and say that it proves that Islam commands Muslims to terrorize unbelievers. In actuality though, they never quote the verse in it's entirety, most times they use this verse they quote it like this:
I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them
They only specifically quote this part of the verse to try and prove their argument. So is this verse what the critics would like us to believe? As usual, the context of the verse has been ignored, in fact the text of the verse itself as been ignored as well!
If you read the verse, it clearly mentions that God inspired the angels, the verse is saying what God told the angels to do, so now you know why the critics leave that part out because that part of the verse alone is enough to debunk their silly article. God was addressing the angels.
Secondly, this verse was in reference to a battle, yes, a battle as in when two sides were on a battlefield engaged in a fight.
Let's read Ibn Kathir's tafsir, explanation of this verse:
Allah commands the Angels to fight and support the Believers
Allah said next,
((Remember) when your Lord revealed to the angels, "Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed.'')
This is a hidden favor that Allah has made known to the believers, so that they thank Him and are grateful to Him for it. Allah, glorified, exalted, blessed and praised be He, has revealed to the angels -- whom He sent to support His Prophet, religion and believing group -- to make the believers firmer. Allah's statement,
(I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved.) means, `you -- angels -- support the believers, strengthen their (battle) front against their enemies, thus, implementing My command to you. I will cast fear, disgrace and humiliation over those who defied My command and denied My Messenger,
(so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes.) strike them on their foreheads to tear them apart and over the necks to cut them off, and cut off their limbs, hands and feet. It was said that,
(over the necks) refers to striking the forehead, or the neck, according to Ad-Dahhak and `Atiyyah Al-`Awfi. In support of the latter, Allah commanded the believers,
(So, when you meet (in fight Jihad in Allah's cause) those who disbelieve, smite (their) necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, take them as captives).) [47:4]
Ar-Rabi` bin Anas said, "In the aftermath of Badr, the people used to recognize whomever the angels killed from those whom they killed, by the wounds over their necks, fingers and toes, because those parts had a mark as if they were branded by fire.'' Allah said,
(and smite over all their fingers and toes.)
Ibn Jarir commented that this Ayah commands, "O believers! Strike every limb and finger on the hands and feet of your (disbelieving) enemies.'' Al-`Awfi reported, that Ibn `Abbas said about the battle of Badr that Abu Jahl said, "Do not kill them (the Muslims), but capture them so that you make known to them what they did, their ridiculing your religion and shunning Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza (two idols).'' Allah than sent down to the angels,
(Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes.)
In that battle, Abu Jahl (may Allah curse him) was killed along with sixty-nine men. `Uqbah bin Abu Mua`it was captured and then killed, thus bring the death toll of the pagans to seventy, So as we read, these events were taking place during a battle.
Now off course during a battle in those days you would aim for the neck to get an immediate blow, and off course you would also aim for their fingers, once taking out their fingers the enemy would not be able to carry his sword hence you neutralize the enemy.
This might sound barbaric, but that's how people fought in battle back then, if we were going to give a description even today of what happens on the battlefield, it wouldn't sound too pleasing but that's how it is. Even though war is ugly, westerners never get tired of calling their soldiers and armies as being heroes, and good guys.
So in conclusion, this verse was referring to what happened during a battle, Islamophobes yet again have been guilty of distorting the passage out of it's context, and not only out of it's context, but often times not even having the integrity to quote the whole verse but only part of the verse to give a misleading picture.
Does that make any sense to you? - Let alone do you believe it is true?
Why do we not respect the terrorists enough to listen to what they have to say about their actions and motivation? - Read above what they say.
One of the most manipulated concepts in Islam today is the concept of jihad.
The concept of jihad is indeed a Quranic one, but sadly, a false and twisted version of this Quranic concept has been used by terrorists acting in the name of Islam to commit various terrorist acts. These terrorist acts, which occur all over the world, aim at the indiscriminate killing of innocent people. They are being undertaken in the name of "jihad". These non-Islamic acts have gone a long way towards distorting the image of Islam.
As with any religious concept, it's correct definition lies in the scripture and not in the interpretation of humans. To fully understand the Quranic concept of jihad, it is essential to address the following issues:
1- The Quranic definition of the word jihad
2- What is "The cause of God"?
3- Are the ones who explode themselves in 'suicide bombings' really going to Heaven as they have been led to believe?
4- Does the concept of a 'holy war' have Quranic authorisation?
FIRST: The Quranic definition of the word jihad
The literal definition of the word jihad is: striving to achieve a goal, while the Quranic definition of the word is "striving with one's self and one's money in the cause of God".
This Quranic definition is confirmed in a number of Quranic verses which speak of jihad. The following are some examples:
"The true believers are those who believe in God and His messenger, then attain the status of having no doubt whatsoever, and strive (jahadu) with their money and their lives in the cause of God. These are the truthful ones." 49:15
"Those who believe, and emigrate, and strive (jahadu) in the cause of God with their money and their lives, are far greater in rank in the sight of God. These are the winners." 9:20
"As for the messenger and those who believed with him, they eagerly strive (jahadu) with their money and their lives. These have deserved all the good things; they are the winners." 9:88
p.s. the word "jahadu" is the verb form of the noun "jihad.
SECOND : The cause of God
Now that we have established that jihad means to strive with one's self and one's money in the cause of God, we need to determine what is the Quranic meaning of the phrase: "the cause of God"?
Striving to uphold the "cause of God" simply means striving to uphold all God's commandments and a strive to condemn all God's prohibitions. Hence, a jihad in the cause of God is a strive to preach and uphold God's way and God's Law. Since the word jihad has been manipulated to advocate violence and the killing of innocent people, it is necessary to establish, with clear Quranic evidence, that the "cause of God" does not allow unlawful killing or violence.
1- First, we must always be aware of the prime declaration in the Quran which states that God does not advocate sin:
"God never advocates sin. Are you saying about God what you do not know?" 7:28
2- Following from that, the Quran states categorically that killing any innocent soul is a gross sin:
"...... You shall not kill - God has made life sacred - except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand." 6:151
"You shall not kill any person - for God has made life sacred - except in the course of justice. ....." 17:33
The prohibition to kill any innocent soul has always been the law of God, in the Quran and in all previous scripture:
"......, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. " 5:32
3- God does not allow fighting (war) except in the case of self defence:
" .......... If they leave you alone, refrain from fighting you, and offer you peace, then God gives you no excuse to fight them" 4:90
"If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in God. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient." 8:61
"do not aggress; God dislikes the aggressors." 5:87
4- God commands that there will be no compulsion in religion:
"There shall be no compulsion in religion ..." 2:256
"You have your religion and I have mine" 109:6
"Had your Lord willed, all the people on earth would have believed. Do you want to force the people to become believers?" 10:99
The commands in the above verses are very clear. The Quran confirms that belief must be attained voluntarily and not forcibly. If we are forced into becoming Muslims, there would be no credit due. The choice must be a voluntary one.
"Proclaim: "This is the truth from your Lord," then Whoever wills let him believe, and whoever wills let him disbelieve" 18:29
"You shall remind, for your mission is to deliver this reminder. You have no power over them" 88:21-22
The message of no compulsion in religion is once again emphasised in the above Quranic words.
5- Quran advocates pardon, forgiveness and tolerance:
"You shall resort to pardon, advocate tolerance, and disregard the ignorant" 7:199
"Tell those who believe to forgive those who do not long for the days of (meeting) God. He will fully pay everyone for whatever they have earned." 45:14
The Quran condemns the killing or even the persecution of people merely because they embrace a different religion. The Quran mandates absolute freedom of religion among all people. Respect and mutual co-existence must be exercised with those of other religions. The Quran urges Muslims to treat such people kindly and equitably:
"God does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. God loves the equitable." 60:8
As all the above verses indicate, the Quran is clear in prohibiting all violence, unlawful killing and also forcing others into Islam.
Attacks on civilians and on innocent people around the world by these terrorist groups is a violation of all the verses quoted above. This is an act that is condemned by all religions including Islam.
THIRD : Are the ones who explode themselves in 'suicide bombings' really going to Heaven as they have been led to believe?
Suicide is a state of disbelief and loss of faith that is condemned by God throughout the Quran. In the Quran, God commands the believers never to despair or lose hope but in stead have faith in God and work for a brighter future:
" ............ none despairs of God's grace except the disbelieving people." 12:87
It is true that many of the youth who commit suicide bombing live in dire situations and there is no denying of their suffering and oppression. But there is no justification for breaking God's commandment. Oppression is not a reason to break God's law. On the contrary, oppression is a good reason to hold tight to these commandments and to show more faith in God. Two wrongs do not make a right.
Sadly, many young people in Islamic countries who get drafted into one of the terrorist groups, are completely brain washed to believe that when they explode themselves in what is known as "suicide bombing" that they die as martyrs and are sent directly to Heaven!
That's the problem with the west calling them "suicide bombers" They are Jihadis who see their actions as dying in fighting in the cause of Allah.
Young male youth, who are easy prey for the devious politically motivated preachers, are totally brain washed into believing that beautiful virgins are waiting for them in Paradise!
Those who kill innocent people in the name of Islam or in the name of God, and who think of themselves as martyrs, should think twice. Their act is categorically condemned by God as per the above verses of the Quran. These people are disobeying God's commandments and in stead upholding the fabricated claims of their teachers/leaders!
So why don't we hear Imams teaching this loud and clear to their own people, rather than just using it to hoodwink us?
"You shall spend in the cause of God; do not throw yourselves with your own hands into destruction. You shall be charitable; God loves the charitable." 2:195
"O you who believe, do not consume each others' properties illicitly - only mutually acceptable transactions are permitted. You shall not kill yourselves. God is Merciful towards you.
"Anyone who commits these transgressions, maliciously and deliberately, we will condemn him to Hell. This is easy for God to do." 4:29-30
As per all the Quranic verses presented, we understand the following:
1- Killing an innocent soul is a great sin in the sight of God
(But unbelievers / infidels aren't innocent by Muslim definition - as argued of killing Jewish babies and children - "they will grow up and join the IDF"
2- Suicide in any form is condemned by God.
3- The Quran does not promise Paradise to those who commit suicide but rather warn of great retribution.
FOURTH : Is there such a thing as a "Holy War" in the Quran?
Various terrorist groups portray "jihad" as a "holy war". The media in the west has been sucked up into accommodating or reporting this false interpretation.
In the light of the Quran, there is no war which is holy; not under any circumstances. In fact, the whole text of the Quran promotes peace rather than war. The word Islam itself is a derivative of the word "salam" which means peace.
Really - I thought it was from "Submission", but anyway, Peace in Islam is being under the rule of Islam - in Dar al Islam.
There is a lot of playing with words here - words that we understand differently.
There are times, and in specific circumstances, when the option of war is allowed. This stems from the fact that the Quran advocates opposition to aggression and oppression. And thus, in such circumstances war is allowed but only as an act of self defence, but never as an act of aggression.
Whenever there is a possibility to avoid war, then this alternative, as long as it is reasonable, must be taken.
"You shall prepare for them all the power you can muster, and all the equipment you can mobilise, that you may frighten the enemies of God, your enemies, as well as others who are not known to you; God knows them. Whatever you spend in the cause of God will be repaid to you generously, without the least injustice. If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in God. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient." 8:60-61
"Permission (to fight) is granted to those who are being persecuted, since injustice has befallen them, and God is certainly able to support them. They were evicted from their homes unjustly, for no reason other than saying, "Our Lord is God." If it were not for God's supporting of some people against others, monasteries, churches, synagogues, and masjids - where the name of God is commemorated frequently - would have been destroyed. Absolutely, God supports those who support Him. God is Powerful, Almighty." 22:39-40
Palestinians make out they are under "occupation" so "resistance" terrorism is justified.
The case made in the Quran for war, and perhaps the most important and often confused as a holy war, is the war "in the cause of God". Fighting an oppressor or aggressor is fighting against oppression or aggression, thus it is fighting for justice and therefore in the cause of God.
"You may fight "in the cause of God" against those who attack you, but do not aggress. God does not love the aggressors." 2:190
Clearly as the above verse states, fighting in the cause of God is a case of fighting an aggressor and thus is a case of fighting in self defence.
Fighting oppression "in the cause of God" is also the subject of 4:75
"Those who readily fight in the cause of God are those who forsake this world in favour of the Hereafter. Whoever fights in the cause of God, then gets killed, or attains victory, we will surely grant him a great recompense. Why should you not fight in the cause of God when weak men, women, and children are imploring: "Our Lord, deliver us from this community whose people are oppressive, and be You our Lord and Master." 4:74-75
Thus it becomes clear that the concept of a strive "in the cause of God", is not restricted to the case of fighting a war "in the cause of God", it is also about striving with one's self and one's money in the cause of God. This could be a strive to spread the "way of God", or even giving charity as per the words:
"You shall spend in the cause of God; do not throw yourselves with your own hands into destruction. You shall be charitable; God loves the charitable." 2:195
To conclude, it is quite clear that the word jihad has been badly manipulated by those with political aims, and in violation of the Quranic truth. The word 'holy' has never been used in the Quran in connection with war. There simply is no reference anywhere in the Quran for what they call "holy war".
There are times when war is permitted, but as we have seen in all the Quranic words, it is only permitted as a practise of self defence, and it is never called a "holy war". Islam resolves around the concept of peace:
"If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in God. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient." 8:61
Don't forget the Islamic practice of Tequiah - deception
Why do we not respect the terrorists enough to listen to what they have to say about their actions and motivation? Read above, what they say.
Understand that the Islamists say different things in Arabic for home consumption to what they say to us in the west in our languages.
Many examples are published on YouTube and shared on social media.
Just do not rely on the media. Media bias includes making excuses for Muslim violence in the name of liberal ideology and multiculturalism. UK's BBC has even spent around £330,000 of license payers' money supressing the results of its own investigation into their bias.
