" ..... They came to life and ruled with the Messiah for a thousand years " .Revelation 20

The Millenium

The thousand year reign of Jesus Christ / Yeshua the Messiah after his return / coming to earth is not much talked about in most Churches and much Christian Gospel teaching is about going to Heaven when you die - or when Jesus comes again.

Revelation chapter 20 speaks of a thousand year period after Jesus returns to judge the earth, having earlier come to bring salvation to mankind. But people tend to ignore the book of Revelation, or regard it as entirely alegorical.

Chuck Missler, in his Expositional Commentary on the book of Ezekiel, pointed out that this thousand year period is mentioned many times in scripture - mostly in the "Old Testament" or Hebrew scriptures.

Revelation 20:1  Next I saw an angel coming down from heaven, who had the key to the Abyss and a great chain in his hand. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan [the Adversary], and chained him up for a thousand years. He threw him into the Abyss, locked it and sealed it over him; so that he could not deceive the nations any more until the thousand years were over. After that, he has to be set free for a little while.
Then I saw thrones, and those seated on them received authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for testifying about Yeshua and proclaiming the Word of God, also those who had not worshipped the beast or its image and had not received the mark on their foreheads and on their hands. They came to life and ruled with the Messiah for a thousand years.

But The Messah's thousand year reign is a thread running through the Hebrew scriptures.

Genesis 17:4  As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

Psalm 89:2  because I said, "Grace is built to last forever; in the heavens themselves you established your faithfulness." You said, "I made a covenant with the one I chose, I swore to my servant David, I will establish your dynasty forever, build up your throne through all generations.' " (Selah)

Jesus / Yeshua, son of David will reign and rule the world from Jerusalem. David's line did not occupy the throne for many generations, but the throne will be occupied by his descendent Yeshua the Messiah in his Messianic Kingdom. This is why the genealogies of Jesus are so important - they establish his position in this covenant.

Isaiah 65:17  "For, look! I create new heavens and a new earth; past things will not be remembered, they will no more come to mind. So be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for look! I am making Yerushalayim a joy, and her people a delight. I will rejoice in Yerushalayim and take joy in my people. The sound of weeping will no longer be heard in it, no longer the sound of crying. No more will babies die in infancy, no more will an old man die short of his days—he who dies at a hundred will be thought young, and at less than a hundred thought cursed. They will build houses and live in them, they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They will not build and others live there, they will not plant and others eat; for the days of my people will be like the days of a tree, and my chosen will themselves enjoy the use of what they make. They will not toil in vain or raise children to be destroyed, for they are the seed blessed by ; and their offspring with them. Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.

Read that carefully and it is clear that this has not happened yet, and that it is not "Christian" Heaven or even The New Jerusalem, but a reign of righteousness where people are still living on earth, having children and dying in old age. But in verse 17 it is clear that the earth will not be as we know it now; under the curse and blighted by evil.

Daniel 2:44  And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Hosea 5:15  I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.

This suggests Jesus' / Yeshua's words to Jerusalem "You will not see me again until you say (quoting Massianic Psalm 118) "Blessed is he who comes in the name of "

Ezekiel 37:24  And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.
Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.
My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And the heathen shall know that I do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.

Luke 1:30  The angel said to her, "Don't be afraid, Miryam, for you have found favor with God.
Look! You will become pregnant, you will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Yeshua.
He will be great, he will be called Son of Ha`Elyon. Adonai, God, will give him the throne of his forefather David;
and he will rule the House of Ya`akov forever—there will be no end to his Kingdom."

Psalm 2:6  "I myself have installed my king on Tziyon, my holy mountain."
"I will proclaim the decree: Adonai said to me, 'You are my son; today I became your father.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance; the whole wide world will be your possession.
You will break them with an iron rod, shatter them like a clay pot.' "

Psalm 110:1  [A psalm of David:] says to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool."   will send your powerful scepter out from Tziyon, so that you will rule over your enemies around you. On the day your forces mobilize, your people willingly offer themselves in holy splendors from the womb of the dawn; the dew of your youth is yours.

Creation will have been changed dramatically, but it is still earth - not Heaven

Zechariah 14:16  Finally, everyone remaining from all the nations that came to attack Yerushalayim will go up every year to worship the king, -Tzva'ot, and to keep the festival of Sukkot. If any of the families of the earth does not go up to Yerushalayim to worship the king, -Tzva'ot, no rain will fall on them.
If the family of Egypt doesn't go up, if they refuse to come, they will have no [annual] overflow [from the Nile]; moreover, there will be the plague with which will strike the nations that don't go up to keep the festival of Sukkot.

Zechariah 9:16  On that day their God will save them as the flock of his people; for they will be like gems in a crown, sparkling over his countryside. What wealth is theirs, what beauty! Grain will make the young men thrive, and new wine the young women.

Notice how this is all about Israel - not the church! God has not Replaced Israel !

Isaiah 11:1  But a branch will emerge from the trunk of Yishai, a shoot will grow from his roots.  The Spirit of will rest on him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and power, the Spirit of knowledge and fearing -   he will be inspired by fearing . He will not judge by what his eyes see or decide by what his ears hear,  but he will judge the impoverished justly; he will decide fairly for the humble of the land. He will strike the land with a rod from his mouth and slay the wicked with a breath from his lips.  Justice will be the belt around his waist, faithfulness the sash around his hips.
The wolf will live with the lamb; the leopard lie down with the kid; calf, young lion and fattened lamb together, with a little child to lead them.  Cow and bear will feed together, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.   An infant will play on a cobra's hole, a toddler put his hand in a viper's nest.
They will not hurt or destroy anywhere on my holy mountain, for the earth will be as full of the knowledge of as water covering the sea.
Isaiah 11:10  On that day the root of Yishai, which stands as a banner for the peoples—the Goyim will seek him out, and the place where he rests will be glorious. On that day will raise his hand again, a second time, to reclaim the remnant of his people who remain from Ashur, Egypt, Patros, Ethiopia, `Eilam, Shin`ar, Hamat and the islands in the sea.  He will hoist a banner for the Goyim, assemble the dispersed of Isra'el, and gather the scattered of Y'hudah from the four corners of the earth.

Isaiah 16:5  And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness.

Amos 9:11  In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:

Acts 15:16  After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: (quote of Amos)

Jeremiah 31:32  "For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Isra'el after those days," says : "I will put my Torah within them and write it on their hearts; I will be their God, and they will be my people.  No longer will any of them teach his fellow community member or his brother, 'Know '; for all will know me, from the least of them to the greatest; because I will forgive their wickednesses and remember their sins no more."
This is what says, who gives the sun as light for the day, who ordained the laws for the moon and stars to provide light for the night, who stirs up the sea until its waves roar—-Tzva'ot is his name:  "If these laws leave my presence," says , "then the offspring of Isra'el will stop being a nation in my presence forever."

These things (laws of nature) have not yet happened. This Millennial kingdom will be on the earth and restored Israel will be there.

Remember God's covenant with David

2Samuel 7:12  When your days come to an end and you sleep with your ancestors, I will establish one of your descendants to succeed you, one of your own flesh and blood; and I will set up his rulership. He will build a house for my name, and I will establish his royal throne forever.

A Christmas favourite

Isaiah 9:5  For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; dominion will rest on his shoulders, and he will be given the name Pele-Yo`etz El Gibbor Avi-`Ad Sar-Shalom [Wonder of a Counselor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace],  in order to extend the dominion and perpetuate the peace of the throne and kingdom of David, to secure it and sustain it through justice and righteousness henceforth and forever. The zeal of Adonai-Tzva'ot will accomplish this.

After the Millennium (Revelation 20) (At the end of this thousand years, during which Satan is imprisoned and unable to lead mankind astray, there will be one final rebellion that will be quickly put down before the new Jerusalem comes down and God will live with his people. (Not in heaven, sitting on clouds and playing harps)

Revelation 21:1  Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had passed away, and the sea was no longer there. Also I saw the holy city, New Yerushalayim, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne say, "See! God's Sh'khinah is with mankind, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and he himself, God-with-them, will be their God.

Consider the Temple of Ezekiel 40 - 48

This Temple has to be a future Fourth Temple.

Solomon built the first Temple, Ezra and Nehemiah built the second Temple (and Herod enlarged it), The Third Temple must be built during the time of the antichrist before he breaks his treaty, declares himself God in this Temple, and defiles it.

The antichrist is destroyed when Jesus returns / Messiah comes and stands on the Mount of Olives.

So why will there be a Temple when we know the New Jerusalem has no Temple ? It has to be the Temple where Messiah Yeshua has his throne to rule the world in righteousness, for a thousand years. Will that throne be the Mercy seat, with its keruvim overarching it ? (Remember, this is separate from the Ark for the Covenant)

"But we are in the Millennium now"

Really ?

Is Satan bound and unable to spoil everything ?

Are the nations honouring Jerusalem and coming up every year to worship ?

Is the world under righteous rule ?

Has the times of the Gentiles come to an end ? And are all the Jews home ?
