"The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets ..." Recep Tayyip Erdogan prime minister of Turkey
A recent census report showed that 250 Muslim people live in Herefordshire. There are no Mosques or specialist Muslim community centres in the county and the nearest place to get Halal meat is Worcester or Gloucester.
With the lack of facilities in Herefordshire for Muslims to pray or support from the local council for a mosque, the Muslims of Hereford have decided to put together their efforts in collecting funds to be able purchase a premises of their own for the future. At present, a Muslim in Hereford can only pray Salat ul Jum'a in a jama'at in a meeting room at the Kindle centre which is rented on an hourly basis. Despite our maximum efforts over the past couple of years to collect fund for a future mosque we have only been able to collect £22,000. The money is collected weekly at Salat ul Jum'a gatherings, part of which go towards renting the premises. At the rate with which we have been able to collect funds, it will take us a very long (a good few years) before which we can possibly collect enough money to have our own mosque or even longer if property prices keep going up.
We, the Muslims of Herefordshire turn to you, to help us in building our own mosque in Hereford, a mosque which will:
Be the symbol of the Islamic faith in Hereford.
Act as a religious centre allowing the possibility of congregational prayer and providing an environment for spiritual purification and inner strength.
Serves as a centre for Islamic educational activities.
Play a central role in the cultural and social life of Muslims of Herefordshire.
PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY TOWARDS THE HOUSE OF ALLAH
'The donor will reap the benefits of their contribution for as long as the mosque exists, may it stand and benefit the local community until the Day of Judgement Insha allah'
PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO AS MANY MUSLIM BROTHERS & SISTERS AS POSSIBLE
May Allah reward you and your family immensely for your contribution ! !
The 2001 UK Census showed that Herefordshire's population is 79% Christian, with another 12.55% having "no religion". In the Census, another 7.7% did not answer the question. This leaves an extremely small population of other faiths - even smaller than the UK average. For this reason, people wanting to worship in mosques or temples may have quite a long way to travel. This list aims to provide details of places of worship in and around Herefordshire.
The Muslim community of Herefordshire is raising funds to build a mosque. Currently the Kindle Centre in Hereford is rented for prayer as there are no mosques or community centres in the county.
The community has so far raised about 40,000 pounds through weekly donations at Friday prayer and from outside help. The chairman of the Herefordshire Muslim Society, said the mosque would welcome people from across the county. He said: "When we have our own place, it's easier then to welcome the other Herefordians... so we're not some kind of weird sect or anything, we're actually quite normal people," he said. The society is aiming to register as a charity and to find a suitable location in the centre of Hereford.
A recent census report showed that over 250 Muslims live in Herefordshire, UK. However, there are NO Masajid or Muslim community centres in the county and the nearest place to get Halal meat is Worcester or Gloucester (about an hour's drive from Hereford). Does this make it hard for Muslims to live in the county of Herefordshire? The answer is YES. With the lack of facilities in Herefordshire for Muslims to pray, the Muslims of Hereford are putting together their efforts in collecting funds to be able purchase a premises of their own for the future.
Our Vision for Tomorrow
We are striving towards establishing a masjid in Hereford which will:
Be the symbol of the Islamic way of life in Hereford.
Act as a community centre allowing the possibility of congregational prayer and providing an
environment for spiritual purification and inner strength.
Serve as a centre for Islamic educational activities.
Play a central role in the cultural and social life of Muslims of Herefordshire.
THE MUSLIM community of Herefordshire is raising money to establish the county's first place of worship. There is growing demand for a place of worship and the Muslim community says that it has outgrown a rented room at Hereford's Kindle Centre that is used for Friday prayer.
The Hereford Times web site's comment string was divided between those voicing concern and the multiculturalists.
As a non-conformist Christian I value Britain's freedom of religion that was won at the cost of men's lives. I used to be a member of a Baptist church in the London area that raised the funds to build a church. So I could not reasonably complain about a group of Muslims raising the necessary funds to build themselves a place of worship.
However, when considering our attitude towards the building of a mosque, there are several questions that should be asked. The experience of other cities where mosques have been built should also be taken into account.
Many of the reservations below should be regarded as worst case scenarios and not judgements of our present Muslim community. The only two members I have met are very nice people. But what has happened elsewhere could happen here; given time.
The Need for a Mosque
Is the proposed mosque of a size suited to the present congregation plus foreseeable growth; or is it unjustifiably large (like the Mega-Mosque proposed for East London)?
Is the present congregation really 100? - observations cast doubt on this.
Will the funds really all be raised by local Muslims and their friends and families, or will it be built with huge donations from the Saudi Arabia as part of its drive to conquer the west for Islam?
When the first mosque in Britain was built in Regents Park, London, the (?) said that once Britain had been conquered, Europe would follow. (check quote)
Funding from Saudi Arabia comes with strings attached. Saudi Arabia exports Wahabi Islam, a particularly hard-line, aggressive strain of Islam and will supply Wahabi clerics and materials. However nice our local Muslims may be, and the few I have met seem a very nice, over time the community can become radicalised.
Several things should be noted at this point.
Islam is not like other religions in that it is an all encompassing empire focussed on winning territory for Allah (bringing it under submission to Islam (the meaning of the word "Islam" is submission ) Other faiths, especially Christianity, focus on reaching around the world, but in order to win the hearts of people; not to take over their territory.
Islam and Peace
According to Islam, the world is divided into "Dar al Harb" the house of war, and "dar es salaam" - the house of peace (that is - the house under Islam (submission)) When Imams speak of wanting peace, this bringing lands under Islam is what they mean. There are a number of other terms that Islam is happy that we misunderstand. There is a principle called Taquia - that it acceptable to lie in three causes; in war, in defending Islam and to keep ones wife happy.
Historically, Islam did not make much headway until Mohammed conquered lands by the sword. His conquest reached as far as the Gates of Vienna and Tours in France, where his forces were defeated by Charles Martell. Spain was conquered and named Andalus. It is still referred to by this name and is a territory that must be reconquered / reclaimed for Allah, since no territory once under Islam may be allowed to revert. Conquest by the sword, Jihad, Holy War , (including terrorism against civilians) is one of the core values of Islam (in addition to the widely acknowledged "five pillars."
Another method of conquest in Hijrah (migration) Muslims are called upon to move into new areas and establish themselves and then seek to exert influence, well out of proportion to their numbers in the community. This is the process that is under way throughout Europe. The newspapers have carried abundant evidence of this, but politicians who are keen to demonstrate their multicultural credentials sweep this under the carpet.
Instances of Muslim communities seeking to bring their target areas into submission to their rules (Sharia - Islamic law) abound and we need to be on the lookout for them.
Halal meat - The Hereford Muslims say there is nowhere for them to buy halal meat in Hereford, but this is misleading because it is actually very difficult to buy meat in a supermarket (other than Morrisons) with any confidence that it is not halal. (Halal meat has been ritually slaughtered with a prayer committing it to Allah, making it "meat sacrificed to idols" to many Christians - Acts 15:20)
The imposition of Halal in our supermarkets, schools, hospitals etc is one example of our British way of life coming (voluntarily) under Sharia. (While Halal is permitted, not permitted is "Haram."
Minarets, the muesin, the call to prayer - This issue made the media for a while when the mosque in Oxford sought to give out the amplified call to prayer at the required five times per day. (the first being at five in the morning) The multiculturalists might argue that this would bring exotic different culture to our cities, but would you wish to be woken at five in the morning for the prayers of another faith? The minarets (towers on mosques) are usually built to be higher that nearby churches in a supremacist gesture. Allowing this is another way of allowing ourselves to come under Muslim rules. Under Islam, a non Muslim may be tolerated as a second class citizen - a dhimmi. There is no need for minarets, since Muslims can purchase prayer alarm clocks; there must be apps or text messaging could be used.
Incidentally, The call to prayer starts with "Allah hu Akhbar" which means "Allah is greater"; it does not mean "God is great"
Allah and (YHVH), the God of the Bible are not the same !
Women - In Islam, (in the Qur'an - Koran ) women are not equals but are treated more like posessions. The British benefits system has been changed to allow second, third and fourth wives to claim state benefits, even though polygamy is illegal in Britain. Muslims claim that Islam respects women and the veil that Muslim women wear is all about modesty, but in practice this means that non veiled, non Muslim women are regarded as worthless by young Muslim men and subjected to verbal abuse and worse. Do we want to bring this into our city for our wives and daughters?
Freedom of speech - When a Danish newspaper published cartoons of Mohammed, organised spontaneous protests erupted around the world in a most ugly manner, with threats of death and actual deaths. The cartoons were exploited as another chance to shout Muslim sensibilities in order to impose Sharia on the rest of us. (similar violence followed the posting of a video on YouTube - since withdrawn)
Islamic clerics tend to define as blasphemy as any criticism of Islam or their prophet. In nations that are already Islamic, blasphemy carries the death penalty. Whatever our blasphemy law says, it appears to offer no disincentive to artists and entertainers to make all kinds of gratuitous insults to Christians, Christianity and Christ himself, but these brave artists do not dare to criticise Islam.
Freedom of worship - Honestly proclaiming the Christian Gospel also gets people into trouble because Christian and Islamic beliefs are mutually exclusive. The creed of Islam, the Shahada, says "there is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet" and the Qur'an says that Allah has no son. Thus proclaiming that Jesus is God's son and his final word is not acceptable to militant Muslims. Muslims should accept Britain's freedom of religion all; not just for themselves. If we do not insist on that, we will allow ourselves to become dhimmis, second class citizens under Islam.
The Race card
Within two weeks of the story breaking, The local paper reported that the Muslims had complained of receiving racial abuse and councillors were rushing to support the project to assert their multicultural and politically correct credentials.
RACIST messages have been sent to fundraisers working to set up the county's first Muslim place of worship, and comments posted on the Hereford Masjid Fundraising Campaign's page resulted in the page being shut down. One abusive message posted on Sunday threatened to contaminate any land identified as a potential site and referred to the group as vermin. The Muslim group replied politely, saying it would report any further racist comments to the police. But this did little to stop the abusive messages. "My country, my opinion and you will hear it," came the response. "The people of Herefordshire are happy with the way things are. They don't want your lot changing it. No more mosques for UK."
A South Wye councillor said he was appalled to hear of the abuse. "At a time when Mo Farah, a Muslim, made us proud to be British, it is embarrassing to read these sad, racist, hillbilly remarks," he added. "With the ever-expanding growth of Herefordshire, we need to be able to welcome people from all across the world whatever their faith, or no faith."
The community integration and race equality development officer with Herefordshire Council, said: "When people hear the word mosque, they immediately picture some great stone building, but as far as I understand this building will be a small, non-intrusive building in keeping with Herefordshire's aesthetic.
Apparently comments were left on the herefordmasjid.com web site thread. But these threads always attract some barely literate bigots and in this case they have played into the hands of those they attacked by getting all criticism branded as racist.
Criticism of Islam has nothing to do with race; many Muslims are white, British people. Criticism of Islam is a religious issue.
Accusations of Islamophobia are another trap. The term is thrown against those criticising Islam, inferring that they are being hateful towards muslim people and thus stifling debate. Islamophobia is, by definition, a fear of Islam; it is not abuse of Muslim people. Other accusations include being "racist" or using "hate speech."
"Community" is another misleading word that comes up in this context. It used to mean all the people who lived in your village or street; it was inclusive and about working together. As used today by multiculturalists, as in "the Asian community", "the black community" or "the Muslim community" the word is actually divisive and means separating from ones neighbours by concentrating upon differences instead of commonality.
June 2014 - It is believed that a defunct Methodist church building in Hereford has been sold to the Muslims.
Europe's most liberal nation, the Netherlands, where six per cent of the population is now Muslim, is scrapping the multiculturalism that has encouraged Muslim immigrants to create a parallel society within the Netherlands .People in the vicinity of any proposed mosque should watch out for moves to set up a minaret and have a muesin broadcasting the call to prayer five times a day. There is no need for this; modern technology gives minaret clocks and text messaging to remind Muslims to pray. A muesin would actually be putting the area under Islamic control
A new integration bill presented to parliament on June 06 2012, reads: "The government shares the social dissatisfaction over the multicultural society model and plans to shift priority to the values of the Dutch people. The letter continues: "A more obligatory integration is justified because the government also demands that from its own citizens. It is necessary because otherwise the society gradually grows apart and eventually no one feels at home anymore in the Netherlands."
The new integration policy will place more demands on immigrants. For example, immigrants will be required to learn the Dutch language, and the government will take a tougher approach to immigrants who ignore Dutch values or disobey Dutch law. The government will also stop offering special subsidies for Muslim immigrants because, "It is not the government's job to integrate immigrants."
The government will introduce new legislation to outlaw forced marriages, impose tougher measures against Muslim immigrants who lower their chances of employment by the way they dress, and impose a ban on face-covering, Islamic burqas.
In a vote that displayed a widespread anxiety about Islam and undermined the country's reputation for religious tolerance, the Swiss overwhelmingly imposed a national ban on the construction of minarets, the prayer towers of mosques, in a referendum drawn up by the far right and opposed by the government.
The referendum passed with a clear majority of 57.5 percent of the voters and in 22 of Switzerland's 26 cantons. Because the ban gained a majority of votes and passed in a majority of the cantons, it will be added to the Constitution. - - nytimes.com 2009
Islam is not a just a religion; it is far more than that. As Dr. Peter Hammond writes in his book, Slavery, Terrorism and Islam: The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat,
"Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life. Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components. The religious component is a beard for all of the other components... Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges. When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well."
And finally - Nonsense - There have been councils who have banned toy pigs from the desks of their employees, lest they offend Muslims who do not eat pork and regard pigs as unclean. The Jews do not eat pork either, but they do not seek to promote confrontation on account of it. This is a ridiculous example of seeking dhimmi status even before the issue is raised!
(comment following the murder of American diplomats and burning of embassies)
This video is not offered being as a Christian viewpoint - simply as a common sense observation
One has to observe that Christians and Jews have been suffering abuse for centuries, largely at at the hands of Muslims, but we do not go our murdering and burning. Why should we tolerate such an intolerant religion?
Daniel Pipes commented that Muslims should be desensitized to criticism of their behaviour and their prophet, and should not be accommodated as they seek to bring us under their law. He said that daily publication of Mohammed cartoons might cause the Muslims to see that their manufactured offence is failing to achieve their objectives. Unfortunately, their orchestrated rampages are proving successful at present, as politicians and media rush to be seen as enlightened and ward off accusations of being "racist" or "Islamophobic" or using "hate speech."
