"He brought me to the sanctuary and measured at ten-and-a-half feet the thickness of the walls on either side of its entrance, which was [also] the thickness of [the walls surrounding] the "tent" Ezekiel 41:1

Ezekiel's Temple

What future is there for a Temple - Since Jesus made the once and for all sacrifice ?

The simple Christian outlook from which the headline question springs leaves out Israel and the Jews and concludes that ...

1 - Jesus' death was the last sacrifice ever.

2 - Jesus will return to take those who have believed (become Christians in a Gentile mould) (The Rapture) and leave all the non believers (including nearly all the Jews) for judgement and Hell. (Romans 9-11 explains the problem with this view, but is seldom preached)

1 - The Temple did not exist solely to make sacrifices for Atonement - that Jesus accomplished once and for all in his own body. There were other sacrifices for worship and fellowship and God wanted the Temple to be the place for His name to dwell.

2 - Prophecy points towards a Third Temple. The period of interest here is the return of the Messiah/Yeshua/Jesus and the start of his thousand year reign.

Revelation talks of the New Jerusalem that comes down from Heaven and has no Temple. But that is only after one thousand years of Messianic rule of Jesus/Yeshua after his return.

When will this happen - the end of this age

Jesus spoke of the fig tree -

Matthew 24:32 "Now let the fig tree teach you its lesson: when its branches begin to sprout and leaves appear, you know that summer is approaching. In the same way, when you see all these things, you are to know that the time is near, right at the door. Yes! I tell you that this people will certainly not pass away before all these things happen. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
(The fig tree is often used of Israel) ("this people" is the Jews; and God has preserved them through many attempts to eradicate them)

Luke, interestingly, includes the other trees -
Luke 21:29 Then he told them a parable: "Look at the fig tree - indeed, all the trees. As soon as they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves that summer is near. In the same way, when you see these things taking place, you are to know that the Kingdom of God is near!
It has been suggested that the amazing things God is doing in the surrounding nations (that we don't hear about) will be additional signs.

What do the prophets tell us about a temple at this time? The prophecy of Zechariah concludes, after the Messiah comes / returns and delivers Jerusalem from the nations that had come against Zion (and triggered his return) to worship at the Feast of Tabernacles and worship centres on the Temple.

Jesus' last prophecy (the Revelation given to John) mentions The Third Temple - when John is told to measure it - a symbolic way of telling him to assess its spiritual condition. (Check out the context - what happens before and what after)

Revelation 11:1 I was given a measuring rod like a stick and told, "Get up, and measure the Temple of God and the altar, and count how many people are worshipping there! But the court outside the Temple, leave that out; don't measure it; because it has been given to the Goyim, and they will trample over the holy city for forty-two months.

Jesus was happy with the idea of Israel coming back. Acts 1 records the disciples' last question to Jesus,

Acts 1:6 When they were together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore self-rule to Isra'el?" He answered, "You don't need to know the dates or the times; the Father has kept these under his own authority.
He didn't tell them they were wrong in their belief in Jesus ruling in Israel.

Jesus spoke of the last days Temple in his Mt of Olives discourse,

Matthew 24:15 "So when you see the abomination that causes desolation spoken about through the prophet Dani'el standing in the Holy Place" (let the reader understand the allusion), "that will be the time for those in Y'hudah to escape to the hills. " The abomination spoken of by Daniel happened under Aristochus Epiphanes before Jesus' time but Jesus talks of it happening again at the end. (Holy place = Temple)

Paul also spoke of this

2Thessalonians 2:3 Don't let anyone deceive you in any way. For the Day will not come until after the Apostasy has come and the man who separates himself from Torah has been revealed, the one destined for doom. He will oppose himself to everything that people call a god or make an object of worship; he will put himself above them all, so that he will sit in the Temple of God and proclaim that he himself is God.
(So there must be a Temple)

Ezekiel's Temple

Ezekiel was given a tour of the future Temple in chapter 40 & 41. This has not yet been built.

Unfortunately, people tend to look at this and other well known chapters in Ezekiel in isolation, instead of as a continuous story. Like many prophecies, it starts off by hammering home the message of sin and resultant punishment before moving on to the process of cleansing, restoration and return. In sequence.......

Please note - whenever the text reads Adonai ELOHIM, it is a translation of the Hebrew - the Lord - the Lord Yehovah) - and ADONAI is a translation of the Hebrew - - Yehovah - Quotes below from the Complete Jewish Bible

Ezekiel 20:

Ezekiel 20: 33 As I live,' says Adonai ELOHIM , 'I swear that surely with a mighty hand, with a stretched-out arm and with poured-out fury I myself will be king over you.
I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you were scattered, with a mighty hand, with a stretched-out arm and with poured-out fury;
then I will bring you into the desert of the peoples and judge you face to face.
Just as I judged your ancestors in the desert of the land of Egypt, so will I judge you,' says Adonai ELOHIM . 'I will make you pass under the crook and bring you into the obligations of the covenant.

Ezekiel 36 - addressing the Mountains of Israel (Judea and Samaria - "West Bank")

Ezekiel 36: 5 therefore this is what Adonai ELOHIM says: "In the heat of my jealousy I speak against the other nations and all of Edom, since, rejoicing with all their heart, they have arrogated my land to themselves as a possession and, with utter contempt, seized it as prey." '
"Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Isra'el, and say to the mountains, the hills, the streams and the valleys that Adonai ELOHIM says this: 'I speak in my jealousy and fury, because you have endured being shamed by the nations.
Therefore thus says Adonai ELOHIM: "I have raised my hand and sworn that the nations surrounding you will bear their shame. But you, mountains of Isra'el, you will sprout your branches and bear your fruit for my people Isra'el, who will soon return.
I am here for you, and I will turn toward you; then you will be tilled and sown; and I will multiply your population, all the house of Isra'el, all of it. The cities will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.
I will multiply both the human and animal populations, they will increase and be productive; and I will cause you to be inhabited as you were before - indeed, I will do you more good than before; and you will know that I am ADONAI. I will cause people to walk on you, my people Isra'el; they will possess you, and you will be their inheritance; never again will you make them childless."

Ezekiel 36 Israel's return

Ezekiel 36:22 "Therefore tell the house of Isra'el that Adonai ELOHIM says this: 'I am not going to do this for your sake, house of Isra'el, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have been profaning among the nations where you went. I will set apart my great name to be regarded as holy, since it has been profaned in the nations - you profaned it among them. The nations will know that I am ADONAI,' says Adonai ELOHIM, 'when, before their eyes, I am set apart through you to be regarded as holy. For I will take you from among the nations, gather you from all the countries, and return you to your own soil. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit inside you; I will take the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

The fact that Israel is very much like the other nations in its failings is not an indication that modern Israel is not of God's doing; God brings Israel home first, and then purifies the people.

How is God bringing this to pass?

Ezekiel 37 - "The valley of Dry Bones"

Ezekeil 37:1 With the hand of ADONAI upon me, ADONAI carried me out by his Spirit and set me down in the middle of the valley, and it was full of bones. He had me pass by all around them - there were so many bones lying in the valley, and they were so dry!

So often misappropriated , this passage makes clear to whom it refers.

Ezekiel 37:11 Then he said to me, "Human being! These bones are the whole house of Isra'el; and they are saying, 'Our bones have dried up, our hope is gone, and we are completely cut off.'

It also makes clear what God is saying about the whole house of Isra'el.

Therefore prophesy; say to them that Adonai ELOHIM says, 'My people! I will open your graves and make you get up out of your graves, and I will bring you into the land of Isra'el.
Then you will know that I am ADONAI - when I have opened your graves and made you get up out of your graves, my people!
I will put my Spirit in you; and you will be alive. Then I will place you in your own land; and you will know that I, ADONAI, have spoken, and that I have done it,' says ADONAI."

The second half of chapter 37 speaks of uniting Israel

Ezekiel 37:19 tell them that Adonai ELOHIM says this: 'I will take the stick of Yosef, which is in the hand of Efrayim, together with the tribes of Isra'el who are joined with him, and put them together with the stick of Y'hudah and make them a single stick, so that they become one in my hand.'

Then, in chapters 38 and 39 comes the Gog Magog war when God brings the nations against Jerusalem to be judged.

There are differences of opinion here -

Is the Gog Magog War the Armageddon battle that could happen soon, when the nations attack Jerusalem and Jesus/Yeshua the Messiah comes and defeats them before establishing his Millennial Messianic reign, or is it the war towards the end of Revelation - at the end of the Millennium?

Are Ezekiel 39 and 40 not chronological?

Do both the battle of Armageddon and the final war of Revelation 19-20 involve Gog and Magog? Ezekiel 38:4 and 8 say,

"I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with all your army"

and (verse 8) , "After many days have passed, you will be mustered for service; in later years you will invade the land which has been brought back from the sword,"

Does God have to "put hooks in their jaws" because they had been burned before (1000 years before) attacking Israel, and had reservations about doing so again?

To continue with Ezekiel

Ezekiel 38:16 and you will invade my people Isra'el like a cloud covering the land. This will be in the acharit-hayamim; and I will bring you against my land, so that the Goyim will know me when, before their eyes, I am set apart as holy through you, Gog.' "Adonai ELOHIM says: 'I spoke of you long ago through my servants the prophets of Isra'el. Back then, they prophesied for many years that I would have you invade them. When that day comes, when Gog invades the land of Isra'el,' says Adonai ELOHIM, 'my furious anger will boil up. In my jealousy, in my heated fury I speak: when that day comes there will be a great earthquake in the land of Isra'el;
Ezekiel 39:1 "So you, human being, prophesy against Gog; say that Adonai ELOHIM says: 'I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshekh and Tuval. I will turn you around, lead you on and bring you from the far reaches of the north against the mountains of Isra'el. But then I will knock your bow out of your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand. You will fall on the mountains of Isra'el, you, your troops and all the peoples with you; I will give you to be eaten up by all kinds of birds of prey and by wild animals.

Ezekiel 39:21 " 'Thus will I display my glory among the nations, so that all the nations will see my judgment when I execute it and my hand when I lay it on them. From that day on, the house of Isra'el will know that I am ADONAI their God; while the Goyim will know that the house of Isra'el went into exile because of their guilt, because they broke faith with me; so that I hid my face from them and handed them over to their adversaries; and they fell by the sword, all of them.
Yes, I treated them as their uncleanness and crimes deserved; and I hid my face from them.'
"Therefore Adonai ELOHIM says this: 'Now I will restore the fortunes of Ya`akov and have compassion on the entire house of Isra'el, and I will be jealous for my holy name.

After all this, Chapter 40 to 41 shows us the new Temple

Ezekiel 40:2 In visions God brought me into the land of Isra'el and put me down on a very high mountain; on it, toward the south, it seemed that a city was being built. That is where he took me, and there in front of me was a man whose appearance was like bronze. He had a flax cord and a measuring rod in his hand, and he stood in the gateway. The man said to me, "Human being, look with your eyes, hear with your ears, and pay attention to all the things I am showing you; because the reason you were brought here is so that I could show them to you. Tell everything you see to the house of Isra'el."
Ezekiel 41:1 He brought me to the sanctuary and measured at ten-and-a-half feet the thickness of the walls on either side of its entrance, which was [also] the thickness of [the walls surrounding] the "tent" [that is, the sanctuary together with the Especially Holy Place].

(another account of events triggering Jesus' return)Joel speaks of judgement on the Nations -

Joel 3:1 "For then, at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Y'hudah and Yerushalayim, I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Y'hoshafat [ADONAI judges]. I will enter into judgment there for my people, my heritage Isra'el, whom they scattered among the nations; then they divided my land.

Zechariah 12 speaks of the nations coming against Jerusalem.

When that day comes, ADONAI will defend those living in Yerushalayim. On that day, even someone who stumbles will be like David; and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of ADONAI before them. "When that day comes, I will seek to destroy all nations attacking Yerushalayim; and I will pour out on the house of David and on those living in Yerushalayim a spirit of grace and prayer; and they will look to me, whom they pierced." They will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son; they will be in bitterness on his behalf like the bitterness for a firstborn son.

This will be the time for the Jews to recognise their Messiah.

Zechariah 14:2 "For I will gather all the nations against Yerushalayim for war. The city will be taken, the houses will be rifled, the women will be raped, and half the city will go into exile; but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city." Then ADONAI will go out and fight against those nations, fighting as on a day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which lies to the east of Yerushalayim; and the Mount of Olives will be split in half from east to west. -
Jesus' return is triggered by the nations coming against Israel - not too difficult to foresee happening.

The "Two State Solution" The lie that the world has swallowed - even though it is an impossible dream - has the "West Bank" as a Palestinian state. However, God's plan refers to this area as the Mountains of Israel (Judea and Samaria) including East Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives - where Jesus will return.

Jesus is not returning to the Islamic state of Palestine, whose president has declared that it will be Jew free!

Just count how many times "the mountains of Isra'el" are mentioned in Ezekiel.

The Third Temple is on its way

The Temple Institute is dedicated to every aspect of the Holy Temple of Jerusalem, and the central role it fulfilled, and will once again fulfil, in the spiritual wellbeing of both Israel and all the nations of the world.

The Institute's work touches upon the history of the Holy Temple's past, an understanding of the present day, and the Divine promise of Israel's future. The Institute's activities include education, research, and development.

The Temple Institute's ultimate goal is to see Israel rebuild the Holy Temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem, in accord with the Biblical commandments. We invite you to read our Statement of Principles. To learn more about the Temple Institute, click here.

THIS SITE TELLS THE STORY OF THE HOLY TEMPLE in words and pictures. It is a story that spans the millennia, from the beginning of creation, to the establishment of the Third Holy Temple, as foretold by every prophet of Israel. Thus, it is a story still unfolding, the most exciting chapters being written now, in our own times.

AT THIS SITE, you may view photographs of the actual sacred Temple vessels that have been produced by the Temple Institute. Each vessel has been created by accomplished craftsmen.

Passover sacrifice re-enacted by Jewish priests-in-training

After 2,000 years, a group that wants to build the Third Temple stages what it says is a historically accurate practice run

Our Goal . . . . the building of the Third Temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem in our lifetime in accordance with the Word of G-d and all the Hebrew prophets, and the liberation of the Temple Mount from Arab/Islamic occupation so that it may be consecrated to the Name of G-d.

On Passover, Nissan 16, 5775, April 5, 2015, the Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement will march to the Holy Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The march will begin Sunday at 11:00 am from Jaffa Gate in Biblical Jerusalem through the streets of the Old City to the Holy Temple Mount. This special march is called the Freedom March, meaning 'Freedom' from any foreign presence and control exactly as G-D calls the Passover holiday. G-D is calling Israel to bring freedom to His Holy Temple Mount, to purify His Holy Mountain from any foreign presence and to immediately build His Third Holy Temple.

The Faithful Movement will call the government of Israel to fulfil this call and expectation of G-D with no fear from any foreign or enemy pressure. Gershon Salomon will lead this march and speak to the people of Israel and will call to the entire world to respect this call and expectation of the G-D of Israel. Everyone is invited and called to participate in this special Freedom March. Come!!

BUT . . . . there are problems !

After recapturing Jerusalem in 1967, the Israeli government handed control of the Temple Mount area to the Muslim Waqf; because, on the Temple Mount is the Muslim Al Aksa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.

The Muslim waqf is guilty of simultaneously denying there was ever a Temple on the site, and destroying archaeological evidence of the Temple and transporting it away mixed with spoil and refuse.

Currently, Jews are allowed on the Temple Mount, but only under strict control so that they may not pray there. Rabbi Yehuda Glick, a human rights campaigner seeking the freedom for all nations to pray on Temple Mount is widely branded as a "right wing activist" and survived a point blank shooting only by a miracle.

The Muslims call Temple Mount Haram al-Sharif (the Noble Sanctuary) and are persuading the world's media to use this name and thereby transfer ownership from Israel to the Muslims in the world's eyes. In 2016, the UN passed resolutions that the Temple Mount should only be called the Haram al-Sharif, and not Temple Mount.

Visits to Temple Mount by prominent Israelis are used as pretexts for initiating violent demonstrations.

The Mount of Olives, to which Jesus may be expected to return (The Messiah to come) is in "East Jerusalem" and within the boundary of any "Palestinian State" coming out of a Two State Solution.

It is going to take a long time to build the Temple.

But this assumes that the prophecies all refer to a stone temple. What if some of the prophecies can be fulfilled by a tent Tabernacle? That could be literally erected overnight!

Checking out the texts quoted above we get . . .
